Sustainable fashion has quickly become a prevalent concept in our lives, particularly with the climate crisis and the pandemic. Brands are transforming their business models to reduce their environmental impact and improve working conditions in factories. There is a noticeable increase in awareness among consumers, especially among younger generations. Every day, consumers are embracing sustainable brands a little more and expecting brands to lead the way in sustainable fashion practices.
New Classics: In our sustainability content, we’ve examined both the popular concept of sustainability and sustainable fashion. You can explore it in detail through the link provided here.
When researching how a brand can become more sustainable, you realize that while there are some general criteria, there isn’t a single formula for sustainable fashion. Some actors emphasize the importance of more environmentally friendly production, while others highlight buying second-hand and refurbishing clothes. Alternatively, some advocate for clothing swaps, rentals, or borrowing instead of purchasing newly produced garments. All of these approaches that promote environmental protection and socially and ethically conscious production and consumption play a significant role in changing fashion.
Anna Brismar, who has conducted research on this topic for many years at Green Strategy, says there are 7 facets of sustainable fashion for both producers and consumers:
We can say that each of these facets in Brismar’s 7 dimensions of sustainable fashion complements each other. Ideally, this cycle should occur for every garment produced. The garment should first be produced on demand or custom-made, with high quality and timeless design, in an environmentally friendly and ethical manner. Then, the garment should be cared for according to instructions and, when necessary, renewed to extend its lifespan. If it’s no longer wanted, it should be given to a second-hand shop or someone who will use it. When the garment is completely worn out, it should be deposited at suitable points for recycling. This is a true sustainable fashion experience.
At Nivogo, we actively engage with many of these facets of sustainable fashion operationally. Ideally, we aim to be an actor that supports every step and beneficial creation of sustainable fashion. We have developed our knowledge and experience in sustainable fashion by refurbishing unfortunate products such as returns from brands, items worn or overstocked during display. We renew these products at the Nivogo Renewal Center to restore them to their original condition and introduce them to consumers.
If you want to give a chance to your unfortunate products and prevent thousands of clothing items, shoes, and bags from ending up in nature, you can contact us and become part of the Sustainable Fashion Movement.
